"David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 1 Samuel 17:45

On the 8th January, the Lord gave me a vision. what I saw was what at first, looked like an adult male with a young child. The child was standing in front of this man, banging his fists into his stomach. I asked the lord what He was showing me, and He quickly spoke one word into my spirit, David. As I have been, as led by the Lord, in a time of rest and fasting in this new year, aside from work, this has afforded me the opportunity to spend considerable time in prayer and His presence. The Lord has repeatedly brought this theme to my attention. This morning as I was reading my bible, He spoke Samuel into my spirit. I immediately looked up the aforementioned verse. I knew He was unctioning me to release a devotional, which always comes with a pressing, specifically about David. However, I still asked for further confirmation, which quickly came via a phone call. As I was praying about this, wrestling really, my phone rang. I answered and all I heard was "Hi Priscilla, this is David from (blank) returning your call." That was the confirmation I needed as it also came with a sense of peace.

David wasn't perfect, BUT his FAITH was. The Lord was with David. When I think about David, my mind always focuses on his heart for The Lord. That is evident, throughout the Psalms. He speaks of His pain, his torment, his challenges and his victories. Victories he won, because he knew and had unwavering faith in who his God was. The bible is full of people who overcame due to the their faith in an unchanging God, whose favour was upon them. They were chosen for the purposes of God, for His glory, and as such, He saw them through to the expected end.

We see this in Davids story. David was a Shepard boy, often overlooked by man, and always by his family. tending to his fathers sheep, alone but with God by his side. David was also a person who, fought and prevailed against bears and lions, while protecting the flock, essentially with his bare hands. David, loved The Lord and The Lord loved Him. David had no idea at the time he was in the wilderness, looking after his fathers sheep. that he was being trained for a much higher purpose. God used that time to test David's heart, to train him for the giant he would be called to take down, in the future . Like Joseph , in spite of the many trials David had to face, The Lord was with David, and his favour upon him. After taking down Goliath, David was anointed to be come king, by the prophet Samuel, at God's bequest. He proceeded to be hunted by king Saul, for the next 19 years. He spent much of that time alone, again, with God at his side. King Saul wanted to destroy David, and despite David having, twice the opportunity to subdue Saul, David's faith in who God is, and what God had spoken to him, informed his decision to trust in The Lord. David knew that He is faithful to preform, every word spoken to him. What God needed, was Davids faith and obedience, even and often when it made no sense, even in the face of immense injustice.

Often times, particularly in today's world we confuse The Lord's favour, bursting bank balances, nice cars etc, when in actuality The Lord's favour can look like leading you to Zig-lag, protecting, teaching and increasing you you while there, then leading you out to purpose and destiny.  God is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is unchanging. So when you give your life to Jesus Christ, these same principals apply, even today.

When you truly follow the Lord Jesus, when you give Him your yes, just as he was hated, you will be hated, hunted, slandered, maliciously lied about to a Machiavellian level, vilified, spat on, etc by an ever roaming enemy, demonic and territorial principalities and the vessels, there- in the enemy uses to accomplish his mission of stealing from, killing and destroying the children of God. Jesus warned us of this in Mathew. He said "And you will be hated by all for my names sake, but the one who endures to the end will be saved." (Mathew 10:22). Trusting in the Lord, His calling on our life and what He has spoken and leaning not on your own understanding, comes at a cost. In fact, it may cost you everything, but what you gain by walking with The Lord, is immeasurably more priceless. David knew that but he trusted God anyway, and The Lord was with David. Joseph knew that, but he trusted God anyway, and The Lord was with Joseph. Esther and Mordecai knew that, but they trusted God anyway, and The Lord was with them. Moses knew that, but he trusted God anyway and The Lord was with Moses. Trusting the Lord, brings peace and joy. The storm will pass, it always does. Exodus 14:14 tells us " The Lord will fight for you, you need only be still and hold your peace" The peace of the Lord, is a precious gift, that is given to us through the gift of salvation. It's an earthly reward, we can receive, while here, when you place your faith and trust in God. David's brother's were not happy when God chose him. Luckily for David, God sits high and looks low, scanning the hearts and as such, God is not bound by the feelings of man regarding who He chooses. That's why He is God and we are not. To man, to his family, David was nothing, a nobody, a Shepard boy, BUT to God, he was a King, from who's line, would come The king of Kings, Jesus Christ.

Zig-lag is temporary stop, on a life long journey. When you walk with and wait on the Lord, He promises to be our defender, fortress, redeemer, deliverer and vindicator. I, for one, will always choose to wholeheartedly put my faith and trust in that promise and truth. My place, is and will always be at The Lord Jesus Christs feet.
